She tries to use this information as partof her typical divide-and-conquer strategy, but the other patientsdo not seem to mind. McMurphy then persuades Doctor Spivey to comewith them and drive the second car. When they stop for gas, theattendant tries to take advantage of them. McMurphy gets out ofthe car and warns him that they are a bunch of crazy, psychopathicmurderers. The other patients, seeing that their illness could actuallybe a source of power for them, lose their nervousness and followhis lead in using their insanity to intimidate the attendant.
